    • Parish Picnic Scheduled for July 13th

Mark your calendars for the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish Picnic scheduled for Sunday, July 13, 2025. The picnic will take place at 11:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Calais

That Sunday, Mass times in Calais and Baileyville will be switched so that parishioners can attend 10:30 am Mass in Calais and enjoy the picnic immediately after Mass.  Mass at St. James in Baileyville will take place at 8:30 am that Sunday. The 12:30 Mass at St. Ann's in Peter Dana Point will be cancelled that weekend.

The Parish Picnic typically takes place each year on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, which falls on July 14th.

Parishioners are asked to bring a dish to share, while the Knights of Columbus will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for the crowd.

If you are able to help with set-up and/or clean-up, please contact Christine Morris at cmmorris4me@gmail.com.  She's helping to coordinate the efforts of the parish's women's groups for this event.

  • Meet Augustine Tah

    • Augustine Tah is a seminarian visiting this summer from the diocese of Kumbo in Cameroon. He is from the village of Lassin, an agricultural community of approximately 500-600 people. He is the sixth of seven children, with two sisters and four brothers.  Augustine noted that his family lost his brother William at the age of 25, to diabetes, which was diagnosed too late. Augustine mentioned that Father Jude Lawsamba, who was here last summer, is his cousin. Their mothers are sisters.

Augustine graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Lassin, where he studied geography, economics, history, philosophy and religious studies. He admitted he didn’t much like math, nor studying French in high school.  Augustine speaks three native languages, in addition to English.  He said that not many people in the area speak English, so one needs to learn another’s native language in order to communicate.
    • Augustine began his studies for the priesthood in Cameroon, where he completed six years of training, including three years study in philosophy, and a pastoral year teaching in a school. He has just completed his first year in theology at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore.  He said it took him two weeks before he began to understand the American accents of his instructors.
    • There were cultural differences as well. In Cameroon, cell phones are not allowed in classes, and seminarians study from books, not on the internet. In the U.S., seminarians are expected to have cell phones to stay up-to-date and the internet is a resource which is heavily used. Augustine indicated that he has three more years of study before ordination.

Augustine has been able to visit some of the northeastern region of the US during his time in the States.  He travelled to Delaware for an ordination and was also able to visit Washington, D.C. He’s been to New Jersey for a soccer competition and has also visited Virginia.

Augustine indicated that there is always plenty of intellectual work to do in the seminary,  When he takes a break from that, he likes to go for walks, contact his family, pray, play soccer and chat with friends.

Please be sure to welcome Augustine when you see him around the church this summer.
    • Arianna Alberti
    • Meet Our New Faith Formation Director

Please welcome Arianna Alberti, our new Director of Faith Formation. Arianna comes to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish from Quincy, Massachusetts, where she was involved in a variety of ministries at St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph’s churches. She said she’s been active in church activities since she was a child, since her mother was a youth minister and family evangelization leader while she was growing up.

She was studying engineering in Pennsylvania when Covid hit in 2020, which required her to try and study that subject from home. That didn’t work for her, so she withdrew from college and began helping her parish priest broadcast Masses over YouTube. She also helped with music ministry and retreats. Her involvement in church ministry even gave her the opportunity to accompany her pastor on his pilgrimage down the Camino de Santiago in Spain, as she documented his journey on YouTube.

Arianna moved to Downeast Maine two months ago, to be closer to her fiancé, Weston Ranalli.  She says they met on Catholic Match and plan to be married in October.

Arianna says she enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. She and Weston also love to hike and take walks with Weston’s dog Phoebe.   She’s also recently started to do some gardening.

Arianna says she’s excited to begin her new position and is looking forward to the possibility of having Vacation Bible School this August.  She also hopes to focus on including families and the community in faith formation activities.

    • Prayer for our Parish

      Lord,
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish is composed of people like me.
It is I who help make it what it is.
It will be friendly, if I am.
It will be holy, if I am.
Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them.
It will do great work, if I work.
It will be prayerful, if I pray.
It will be generous for good causes, if I am a generous giver.
It will bring people together for worship and fellowship, if I invite and bring them.
It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, if I am filled with these same qualities in myself.
Therefore, Lord, give me the grace to dedicate myself to being everything I want St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, my parish, to be.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
      Amen.
