Parishioners of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish gathered Sunday after 10:30 Mass in Calais to honor Cheryl Amber and Kathy Lawrence, who are both retiring this week after years of dedicated service to the parish.
Father Roland praised both women as responsible for helping him negotiate his new pastoral responsibilities when he arrived in the parish last summer. Cheryl and Kathy were presented with bouquets of flowers and cards from parishioners, and many rounds of applause.
Mike Boies, Chair of the Parish Council, emceed the event. Patty Pike, who had spent some time working in the office, described just how varied and complex the duties could be, and the dedication both Cheryl and Kathy brought to their jobs.
Kathy is retiring after seven-and-a-half years of service as Business Coordinator for the parish. Cheryl started working in the office over 16 years ago. She advised Kixx Alderette, who will be replacing both Cheryl and Kathy, to take good care of our parish family.
Parishioners contributed lasagna and other pasta dishes, as well as salads, breads and desserts for the recognition luncheon. Volunteers also helped with set-up and clean-up in support of the well-attended event.
