Arianna Alberti, Director of Faith Formation for St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish described this year’s Vacation Bible School a wonderful success. She said they had a good group of children, teens and adult volunteers who were having fun and taking in the lessons based on the theme of “Living Water.”
She said that each day of the VBS had a water-based theme and a related lesson. Monday, it was the creation story and the lesson that God created us and that we are each special. Tuesday’s stories were focused on Jonah and Noah, with the lesson that God takes care of us no matter the choices we make. Wednesday’s Bible story was Jesus’ baptism and the lessons explored how we can follow the examples he set. On Thursday, the groups heard the stories of Jesus turning water into wine and Jesus walking on water, examples of the awesome miracles God can perform.
Arianna indicated that participants did a writing activity each day, which helped them take in and retain the lessons learned. She said that she has really appreciated having the time to get to know the children, teens and volunteers, some of whom had come from St. Peter the Fisherman Parish in Machias. Arianna said she saw possibilities in some joint efforts between the two Downeast parishes.
The Vacation Bible School wrapped up on Thursday with a barbecue, with the grilling being done by St. Croix Council # 149 of the Knights of Columbus.
